There's a lot of speculation surrounding artists like Jay-Z, Kanye West and others before them when it comes to their successes and 'selling themselves to the devil,' so to speak. In recent news and with the release of the new single 'Russian Roulette,' Rihanna has been jabbed and questioned at in the media by even her peers such as Tiffany Evans and Omarion.
The single within itself is following all her drama with ex-beau Chris Brown. Note that Rihanna has never sat down for an interview about the incident between her and Chris and well why should she- she's the victim. Russian Roulette is dark, no question but in a metaphoric sense not to be taken literally, I'd think her fans would agree considering the single is blowing the charts on Billboard Top 100 at #62 and #35 on Billboard Pop in its 2nd week. And hasn't RihRih been edgy for a while now?
As implied on Tiffany's twitter page
"Russian Roulette = Suicide Rate gon sky Rocket."
And she goes onto say thereafter,
"Man! I really wish I could tell you guys what the industry really is and what stars are apart of destroying this world. The stars who worship Satan and those who have killed to get the respect
they have now. You’d be verrrry surprise. Some of your favorite people pretend to worship God but they only do that to save face. Or seem innocent." Really Tiffany?Omarion says (via TheBoomBox):
"I don't personally know Rihanna's beliefs but I think there's a very dark and very sinister part of the entertainment business and I think it's very visible."
While not jabbing Rihanna, Omarion notes the industry for having this side. But aren’t there 2 sides to EVERY industry? Corporate America is cut throat and demeaning at times, so really what’s the difference? At the end of the day the top ranking artists get the most backlash because they are the most popular and are holding down the videos, charts and keeping the blog sites content flowing. Right or Wrong?
Not knocking Tiffany but her 1 and only single if I'm not mistaken was 'Promise Ring.' Are these stars that are back lashing their peers salty over the career success that they have yet to achieve? Haterade or not, stars are humans too and your creative outlet is just that- a creative outlet, whether it be singer, songwriter etc. The track itself was written by Ne-Yo and produced by Chuck Harmony.
Here’s what Chuck had to say about the responses:
"People are so closed minded. The song is not literal. Like most provocative art, its symbolism. Grow up. I'm never going to defend my art. I create it and then it's out of my hands. So reviews don't hurt me, but Tiffany's unrealistic take on the song really irked me because idiots breed idiots. Bottom line, she is in the music business so she understands that the song is not indicative of the artist views, but rather, it's the brainchild and vision of the songwriter and producer. With that being said, to use that song as a shining example of devil worship in the music business, you are saying that Ne-yo and Chuck Harmony aredevil worshippers. That's stupid!!"
So what’s in a popular song on the radio or success in the music industry?
