Today marks 13 years since Hip Hop
lost one of its greatest MCs of all time. It was great to see the trending
topic #RIPBIG on twitter as soon as the clock struck 12a.
Christopher Wallace aka The
Notorious B.I.G. had one of the most impactful careers over such a short period
of time. "Biggie" didn't even release his 2nd album (which seemed to prophesize
his death) before he was gunned down in Los Angeles. The Double disc "Life
After Death" became an instant classic released fifteen days later.
It hit #1 on the U.S. album charts and was certified Diamond in 2000. Since
then we have continued to enjoy his work with posthumous albums: Born Again and
Biggie Duets and the story of his Life 'Notorious'.
Since his death, Wallace's lyrics have been sampled and quoted by a variety of hip hop, R&B and pop artists including Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Alicia Keys, Fat Joe, Nelly, Ja Rule, Lil Wayne, and Usher. The Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation was created by his mother Voletta Wallace to raise funds for children's school equipment and supplies and to honor the memory of the late rapper. For this particular event (The annual dinner a “BIG” Night out), "B.I.G." is also said to stand for "Books Instead of Guns"
There are 2 people in the music biz that takes this anniversary to the next level EVERY YEAR! Biggie’s DJ Mister Cee and the man that put him on the map Sean "Diddy" Combs. On this 13th anniversary, Harlem native, Diddy decided he wanted to cross the bridge for the 1st time ever and celebrate the Life and times of his great friend in BROOKLYN with who else but Mister Cee.
The tribute Concert Party will be held in the heart of Bed-Stuy (Biggie's home) at the Lab Banquet Hall. This will definitely be a historical event. Diddy has some surprises for BK that they will NEVER forget. He is very excited about this event. As seen on the following video.
His last party in NY - he performed with the Lox - WHO KNOWS Who will be in the
building tonite!!! (Stay tuned for pics and recap)
For now, enjoy some Biggie Classics and tributes on Biggie Day.
